Mary Ziegler Houff
1922-2015
Mrs. Houff died peacefully at her home in Indianapolis on Thursday, February 26, preceded by her husband James Lee; her father, mother, brothers and sisters of the Harry Ziegler family; and her baby son James Phillip. In her last hours Mary was surrounded by her family Mary Ann and Daniel Shields of Indianapolis; Bonnie L Houff, John N Houff, Victoria James-Houff, and Alicen M Houff of Bloomington. Wishing they could have been there are family members Susan and Scott Zeidel and Robin Trudeau of Los Angeles, CA; Michael Jolly, Sarah Spomer, Charlotte and Max Jolly, all of Bloomington, IN; Karen and Mark Sperling, Benjamin, Deborah, and Isaac Poole, all of the Boston Area; Steven and Lindsay Landon of the Chicago area, and Kristen, Nick, Gianna, and Alex Smith of Malverne, NY. Mrs. Houff formerly lived in Champaign, Illinois.
Mary was a talented musician, a teacher of music and English in public schools, a registered nurse, an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grand-mother, and a steadfast friend. She spent her last months in a volunteer ministry to the memory-impaired. She will be sorely missed by those whose life she touched.
Private memorial services were held for family members and close friends in Indianapolis. Mary and James Lee’s co-mingled ashes will be scattered in the Smoky Mountains at a later date. Cremation services were provided by Indiana Funeral Care and Crematory, Indianapolis, IN.
The family thanks the staff of Westminster Village North and Community Home Health Care Hospice for their tender care of Mary and her family.
